Dragon Age senior creative director leaves BioWare

Matthew Goldman departs after 19 years at the studio

Dragon Age senior creative director Matthew Goldman has left Bioware after a combined 19 years at the developer across two stints.

Goldman’s departure was announced internally by the studio’s VP and general manager, Gary McKay, PC Gamer reported. The two parties had “mutually agreed to part ways,” the email said, adding that Goldman’s last day was November 24th.

“We understand that Matt’s departure has an impact on you as well as the game’s development,” McKay continued. “Rest assured our commitment to a high-quality Dragon Age game has not waivered, and we will not ship a game that is not up to Bioware’s standards.

“We, including EA’s executive team, have absolute confidence in the leadership here at the studio and the people working on this game to carry forward our vision.”

Goldman initially joined the Edmonton-based developer in 1998 and remained for over seven years as art director. He then briefly joined Microsoft to work on Halo Wards as art lead for three years, before joining Bioware again in 2009.

He initially was art director, before becoming principal visual director in 2014 and finally senior creative director for Dragon Age in 2017.

General manager Casey Hudson and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah both left Bioware last year, while chief of staff and director of Anthem, Jonathan Warner, announced his departure from the studio in March.
